The rose-covered cottage was a picture of serenity.David immediately felt welcome there – warm, relaxed, enveloped in comforting peace – almost as if it had a will of its own.
So peaceful was it that it was easy to forget what had gone before:
Bronwen Temple found dead with a broken skull …
Margaret Lane, newly-wedded, and burned to death in the summer house … David’s own sister-in-law, Helen, killed by a tragic fall from the roof …
No, the cottage was perfect. All it needed was a woman in it again.
Then David’s fiance Shelagh came to stay from America …
